Finally!! but not a winner!!

Well, the new Sheffield Wednesday manager has been announced, drum roll........its Brian Laws!! Yes, you are right to ask who, what, where, why??? Well, I've no idea!! He's got a limited pedigree, never managed in the premier league (unlike Paul Sturrock) and has never taken a team beyond league one. So why you ask is he being trialled at Sheffield Wednesday? Dave Allen has always said he wanted to get someone in who has taken teams into the premier league. Brian Laws is not the right man.

For my money they should have stuck with Sean Macauley (the guy who has 3 wins and draw to his name as caretaker manager) for a few months and waited until the right manager was available. However, I hope I'm wrong!! onwards and upwards!!

still no news.....

After 2 wins and a gallant draw, it seems Sheffield Wednesday don't need a manager after all!!

The fall out from sturrock leaving has fanned the bonfire on the manager merrygoround debate. Dave Allen shouldn't have sacked Sturrock unless there was a better alternative. I like others, thought this replacement would be Nigel Worthington, but it seems like Nigel isn't interested - who can blame him really - its the proverbial poison chalice job. I think its now 10 managers in 10 years for swfc, so where now? Its a huge problem, as we need someone with the pedigree but we can't afford them.

what was wrong with sturrock????

what the?

Sheffield Wednesday have just sacked their manager, Paul Sturrock after a miserable start to the season. That's all well and good, but 2 weeks earlier the board had just offered him a new contract until 2010. I'm just wondering now, what sort of severance pay we are going to have to give him?

However, this could be a blessing in disguise for the club as Wednesday legend, Nigel Worthington is waiting in the wings after himself just being sacked from Norwich.

onwards and upwards!

hilarious....

after further review of the Sheffield Wednesday website today I stumbled across this short statement. Apparently, there was some half time entertainment from a local girl band. As they were introduced as 'coming from sheffield' the opposing Barnsley fans didn't take to them (wonder why) and started to hurl abuse. But it just gets better....the lovely local girls then decided to voice their own opinion, by telling the crowd to 'f#$k off'. The Sun article, says that they were promptly arrested- FANTASTIC!!

finally a win (ish!!)

Sheff Weds finally chalked up a result lifting them out of the Championship relegation zone. By all accounts a lucky 2-1 win over Barnsley but hopefully the start of a winning run!

On the other side of the world, Sydney FC lost to Central Coast Mariners, 3-1 away from home. A dreadful result and a terrible performance from Mark Bentley especially. It just shows that Sydney needs its key players back ASAP!!

next g anyone?

Australia is currently being hit by a marketing blitz on the scale of the recent Coke Zero mega push earlier in the year. Telstra have launched their new 'next g' network? So what is this? Well, I'm only a little tech savvy but I'm not sure if its anything new or in fact its just Telstra's version of 3mobile?

The website doesn't help too much either, it just seems to be a fancy mobile phone shop, with a Beatles soundtrack! I suppose the proof will be in the pudding. I love the idea of having email, TV, music etc.. on one handset but I'm yet to be Wow'd by anything that is affordable. Affordability is the key to all of this. There's no point having a handset that just gets the masses deeper and deeper in debt. One day someone will realise that honesty with pricing is the best policy.

perhaps they should put these in the new wembley?

A great link i stumbled across the other day about the latest invention from Dyson, however it now seems to have been debunked (and see mitsubishi model to left). In any case the concept is something that needs further investigation!!

prize for the first comment

ok, I'm conducting a little experiment....

I'm new to this blogging thing and I know that each blog is a very personal account of whats going on in that persons head. This obviously leads to posts about things that no-one cares about at all!

So, I'm putting a small challenge out....I'm offering a small prize of some sort of prize realted to Australia for the first person to post a comment on this blog.

Each month the dollar value will rise by $10 (aus) from today.

terrible terrible terrible

Leading for most of the game at home and then to lose it in 20 minutes!! Wednesday seemed to have 20 minutes of madness after a solid performance for most of the game. Derby went down to 10 men and we continued to push, throwing on 3 unfit strikers to get the winning goal only to be hit in extra time by a winning goal from Derby. We must improve, there is no excuse for a home defeat like this!

So what is the answer???

Do we have to get rid of Sturrock, I just don't think its as easy as this. I think we just have to wait, once all the strikers are back up to fitness we'll have a proper team that can challenge the others in the championship. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we'll be challenging for playoffs but I think, I like most other wednesdayites juts want middle table mediocrity this season.

unconvincing win for sydney fc

i thought I'd give Star City a go to watch the football and was disappointed in a number of ways. A poor performance and not a great venue. Sydney are desperately missing some key players. I don't think Carbone is the answer either. He'll sink Sydney into debt in the same way he did with Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City. Sydney lost the league when they sold Yorke. Anyway, less of the doom and gloom. If Sydney don't win the a-league this year it wouldn't be a bad thing (can't believe i said that). For the good of the game in Australia we need healthy competition and Melbourne, QLD and Adelaide are all providing this.

back now....

well, after 4 posts way back in March, I'm now back and this time i mean business. I'm not exactly sure what type of business as I'm still not sure what my blog will be about. I reckon that the most successful blogs are the ones where you can see the passion of the writer come through. So i have a feeling this will morph into a blog about sport and media. Lets see how we go.....

Eng 2 v 1 Uru

I got the score wrong but the result was right - just!!

England pulled another one out of the bag last night with a Joe Cole winner in the third minute of extra time. England were down 1-0 for most of the match, but Peter Crouch scored his debut goal (and about time too!) late on.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4754630.stm

Still not a convincing result considering England are being touted as potential winners for the World Cup 2006!!

Also worth noting that they used their new red (circa 1966) kits last night - looking very sharp indeed.

FYI - minutes silence was for late great England Manager, Ron Greenwood

cheeky little monkey

Surely inspired by the superb Sky Sports (UK) show - 'soccer am'

here is the clip with sound as it appeared on the BBC

Whats the story...?

So here is where it starts, there have been a few false dawns with this blogging thing but I'm finally going to make a go of this one. I guess that I now understand a little more about what makes a successful blog and I think the key is passion. You have to have a passion for what you are writing about. I'm hoping that this blog will help me hone my writing skills and also show people what I'm passionate about. You'll find that football (I will never call it soccer) is one of these passions that comes to the front but I reckon I'd like to talk about other stuff too.

Just to give you a little background so you can put things into context. I'm in my late twenties, originally from Sheffield (city in the north of England) and I've been living in Sydney, Australia for the past 2 and a half years and very much enjoying life down under. Before moving to Sydney I lived in London for 4 years after graduating from university in northern England.
